lifestyle farm autumn update

With the weather turning slightly cooler at night, and the days becoming shorter, we will hopefully start to see the incidence of many summertime diseases trending downward. Due to the lack of rain this summer, facial eczema and barber’s pole incidence has been low.

If we get a decent bout of rain through March/April, we may see a resurgence in these diseases, so be sure to remain vigilant and to treat preventatively as required.

If you have backyard chickens, you may notice egg numbers dropping off as they begin getting ready to moult. Now is also a good time to give ewes and rams a good checking over and foot trim, to ensure they’re happy, healthy and fit for mating.
