Graduate Support

2022 new graduates

At Franklin Vets, we are committed to building a strong, engaged team that creates value for our clients. We have a reputation for expertise in problem-solving and preventative veterinary medicine programmes. This ensures we build long term, trusted relationships with our client base.

Our graduate program is 3 years and includes 8 full days in the first year, 3 full and 3 half days in the second, and 1 full day and 2 half days in the third year. Graduates are taken out of the day-to-day work environment and participate as a group in a structured programme, with graduates from Vetent. This has been specifically designed to address many of the issues where Franklin Vets and Vetent have identified new graduates need support. In addition, all team members complete a Resilience Programme, clinic rotations within the practice and bi-monthly case review sessions.

The Support Programme is facilitated by a team of senior experienced veterinary practitioners from within Franklin Vets and Vetent. First-year graduates are exposed to case studies and interactive sessions covering topics such as certification, supersession, communication, and health and safety.

Professional development components include “talk the talk” or learning about farm business as well as “the approach” to many of the routine, seasonal clinical situations that graduates will face in their first year of clinical practice.

External, professional support is contributed by health specialists and financial experts. Veterinary specialists are involved at the combined first and second-year sessions to cover detailed veterinary professional development topics such as ophthalmology, dermatology, endocrinology and orthopaedic surgery.

Scholarships for Seeing Practice

We have a positive approach to working with students and are keen to support Massey Veterinary School with their programme by giving students the opportunity to see practice.

Working alongside our experienced Vets, Vet Technicans and Vet Nurses, you will be exposed to a range of veterinary cases, allowing you to observe and gain hands-on experience while you learn.

We have 25 scholarships of $300 each, available for students in their 5th year, to assist with the associated costs of seeing practice. To register your interest in our student placements for 2023, please email students@fvs.co.nz with your clinic preference and availability. Scholarships are allocated on a first in first served basis.
