Beware the products used for Spring chores

Harley the 6-year-old cat was brought into our Pukekohe clinic after her owners used moss and mould killer on their deck.

The next day she was lethargic and drooling a lot and we found that her tongue had multiple small ulcers, most likely from licking the product off her feet. Her sister then came in in the afternoon after she had been hiding away all day and was found to also have ulcers in her mouth. Luckily after some antibiotics and pain relief the cats made a full recovery.

Products like this cause caustic burns to the mouth. We also see it with wet'n forget, bleach and dettol. When using these products it is best to try and keep cats away until it dries.
